Abstract:
Aim of the study: To analysis the perceptions of patients within the Diyarbakir region in respect of the toxicity of mercury in amalgam fillings. Materials and methods:The study enclosed five hundred patients with a minimum of one amalgam filling World Health Organization attended the clinic for routine dental treatments. information were gathered employing a single-page form The queries on the shape associated with age, gender, legal status, level of education, economic standing, varieties of dental filling, whether or not or not the amalgam filling enclosed mercury and whether or not or not mercury was harmful to human health. queries were conjointly asked to establish the patient’s level of information in respect of mercury, amalgam fillings and human health. Results:A total of five hundred patients were enclosed within the study, comprising 283 (56.6%) females and 217 (43.4%) males. once economic standing was questioned, 267 (53.4%) patients rumored monthly financial gain of 0-1000TL and 233 (46.6%) patients rumored quite 1000TL. the extent of education was elementary school in one hundred ten (22%) patients, highschool in 159 (31.8%), university or post-graduate in one hundred ninety (38%) and forty one (8.2%) were illiterate. the kind of dental filling was unknown by sixty four.4% of patients and fifty nine.6% didn't recognize that the amalgam filling contained mercury. 52.6% of the patients didn't recognize whether or not or not mercury was harmful and seventy two didn't recognize whether or not or not mercury in amalgam was harmful. Conclusion:A low level of awareness made up our minds within the study participants in respect of the toxicity of mercury in amalgam fillings.
