ABSTRACT: Recent years have seen enormous success with reinforcement learning, particularly in challenging games like chess, go, and Atari. This accomplishment has been largely made feasible by through sophisticated deep neural network techniques for function approximation. The purpose of this work is to present the fundamental ideas of reinforcement learning, clarify how deep learning and reinforcement learning can be coupled successfully, and investigate the potential applications of deep reinforcement learning in the field of medicine.
