Aims & Scope
Advances in Robotic Surgery is a peer-reviewed, open access robotic surgery journal published by Directive Publications. It disseminates original scholarship on robot-assisted and minimally invasive surgery across the surgical specialties, serving surgeons, surgical trainees, biomedical engineers, and clinical researchers who advance the science and practice of surgical robotics.
The journal covers the full arc of robotic surgery: robotic urologic surgery (including single-port and radical prostatectomy), robotic general and gastrointestinal surgery (such as distal pancreatectomy and colorectal procedures), pediatric robotic surgery (including pyeloplasty), robotic thoracic surgery, and gynecologic and hepatobiliary applications. We also welcome work on robotic platforms and the da Vinci surgical system, learning curves, operative-time and outcomes analyses, cost-effectiveness, simulation and training, and comparative laparoscopic-versus-robotic studies.
We publish original research, systematic reviews, technical notes, case reports, case series, and editorials addressing the methodological, translational, and applied dimensions of the field. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review.
Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence with authors retaining copyright, assigned a permanent Crossref DOI, and made discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and an OAI-PMH endpoint. The journal follows COPE ethical principles, ensuring a citable and openly accessible scholarly record.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does Advances in Robotic Surgery cover?
Advances in Robotic Surgery publishes research across robot-assisted and minimally invasive surgery, including robotic urology (such as single-port and radical prostatectomy), robotic general and gastrointestinal surgery (such as distal pancreatectomy and colorectal procedures), pediatric robotic surgery (such as pyeloplasty), robotic thoracic surgery, and work on robotic platforms, learning curves, training, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
Who should read and publish in Advances in Robotic Surgery?
The journal is intended for surgeons and surgical subspecialists (urology, general, colorectal, thoracic, pediatric, and gynecologic surgery), surgical trainees and fellows, biomedical and robotics engineers, and clinical researchers studying surgical robotics and minimally invasive techniques.
What types of articles can I submit to Advances in Robotic Surgery?
We accept original research, systematic and narrative reviews, technical notes, case reports and case series, comparative laparoscopic-versus-robotic studies, and editorials addressing the theoretical, methodological, translational, and applied dimensions of robotic surgery.
Is Advances in Robotic Surgery open access, and who holds copyright?
Yes. Every accepted article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, and authors retain copyright. Articles are freely readable and reusable with attribution.
How does peer review work at Advances in Robotic Surgery?
All submissions undergo double-blind peer review, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are mutually concealed, and editorial decisions follow COPE ethical principles to ensure rigorous, impartial assessment.
Will my robotic surgery article receive a DOI and be discoverable?
Yes. Each published article is assigned a permanent Crossref DOI for stable citation and is made discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and the journal's OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting.
Is there an article-processing charge, and are waivers available?
As an open access journal, Advances in Robotic Surgery applies an article-processing charge on acceptance to sustain open publication. Waivers and discounts are available; authors should contact the editorial office to discuss eligibility before or during submission.
How do I submit a manuscript to Advances in Robotic Surgery?
Review the author guidelines for formatting and ethics requirements, then submit through the journal's submission page. The editorial team confirms scope fit in robotic or minimally invasive surgery before assigning your manuscript for double-blind peer review.
