Aims & Scope
The Journal of Nature Conservation Science (JONCS) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal published by Directive Publications, dedicated to the science and practice of conserving biodiversity, wildlife, and natural ecosystems. The journal publishes rigorous, evidence-based research that advances understanding of how species, habitats, and ecological processes can be protected, restored, and sustainably managed in a rapidly changing world.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, case studies, methodological papers, and short communications spanning conservation biology, conservation ecology, wildlife and carnivore conservation, threatened and endangered species recovery, protected-area design and effectiveness, habitat restoration, conservation genetics, and human-wildlife coexistence. Submissions applying modern tools - remote sensing, GIS and satellite monitoring (e.g., MODIS), species distribution modeling, citizen science, and bibliometric synthesis - are especially encouraged.
JONCS serves conservation scientists, ecologists, wildlife biologists, protected-area managers, policymakers, and practitioners worldwide who need a trusted venue to share and discover actionable conservation evidence. The journal emphasizes work that connects theory with on-the-ground impact, from local population studies to global biodiversity policy.
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence with authors retaining copyright, and each is assigned a permanent Crossref DOI. Content is discoverable via OpenAlex and Google Scholar and harvestable through our OAI-PMH endpoint, and the journal follows COPE ethical principles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does the Journal of Nature Conservation Science cover?
JONCS covers the full breadth of nature conservation science, including conservation biology and ecology, wildlife and carnivore conservation, threatened and endangered species recovery, protected-area design and monitoring, habitat restoration, conservation genetics, ex situ breeding and reintroduction, citizen science, remote sensing for biodiversity, and conservation policy. Work bridging conservation theory with practical management is especially welcome.
Who should publish in and read the Journal of Nature Conservation Science?
The journal is intended for conservation scientists, ecologists, wildlife biologists, geneticists, protected-area managers, environmental NGOs, policymakers, and practitioners. Researchers seeking a peer-reviewed, internationally discoverable open access venue for biodiversity and conservation work - and readers looking for actionable, evidence-based conservation findings - are the core audience.
Is the Journal of Nature Conservation Science open access, and who holds copyright?
Yes. JONCS is fully open access. Every accepted article is published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, meaning anyone can read, share, and reuse the work with attribution. Authors retain copyright to their own articles, and there are no subscription or paywall barriers to readers.
How do I submit a manuscript to the Journal of Nature Conservation Science?
Authors can submit through the journal's submission page on the Directive Publications platform. We accept original research, reviews, case studies, methodological papers, and short communications in nature conservation science. Please follow the author guidelines for formatting, ethics declarations, and data-availability requirements before submitting.
What types of articles does the journal accept?
JONCS publishes original research articles, review and systematic review articles, conservation case studies (including species- and site-specific studies such as protected-area monitoring or population assessments), methodological and technical papers (e.g., remote sensing, modeling, bibliometrics), and short communications reporting timely conservation findings.
How does peer review work at the Journal of Nature Conservation Science?
Every submission undergoes rigorous double-blind peer review, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential to ensure impartial evaluation. Manuscripts are assessed for scientific validity, methodological rigor, conservation relevance, and ethical compliance, in line with COPE principles.
Is there an article-processing charge, and are waivers available?
As an open access journal, JONCS applies an article-processing charge (APC) on acceptance to sustain open publishing, peer review, DOI registration, and long-term preservation. Waivers and discounts are available - for example for authors from low-income regions or where funding is limited. Contact the editorial office for current charges and waiver eligibility.
Will articles in the Journal of Nature Conservation Science be discoverable and citable?
Yes. Each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI for stable citation and is indexed by OpenAlex and Google Scholar, with metadata available via an OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. As a new open access title, JONCS is also building toward eligibility for additional disciplinary indexes, including a DOAJ application.
