Abstract:  Tropheryma whipplei is the actinomycete that causes Whipples illness, an uncommon chronic infection. Gastrointestinal problems are frequently reported in patients. We describe a case of classic Whipples disease that was made worse by a likely Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction after ceftriaxone treatment was started.
