Aims & Scope
The Journal of Obesity Research is a peer-reviewed, open access obesity research journal published by Directive Publications. It advances the multidisciplinary science of obesity, from the molecular biology of white and brown adipose tissue to the clinical management of obesity-related metabolic disease, providing researchers, clinicians, and public-health practitioners a trusted venue for rigorous, citable scholarship.
The journal welcomes original research, reviews, clinical trials, case reports, and editorials across adipose tissue biology, adipokine signalling, energy balance, and appetite regulation; metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and obesity-related cardiovascular disease; bariatric and metabolic surgery, anti-obesity pharmacotherapy including GLP-1 receptor agonists, and lifestyle and dietary interventions; and childhood obesity, obesity epidemiology, the gut microbiome, genetics, and prevention.
We value translational work that bridges mechanism and patient care, alongside population studies that inform policy and weight-management practice. Methodological rigour, reproducibility, and transparent reporting are central to editorial assessment.
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and each receives a permanent Crossref DOI, discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and an OAI-PMH endpoint. The journal follows COPE ethical principles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does the Journal of Obesity Research cover?
The Journal of Obesity Research covers the full breadth of obesity science: adipose tissue biology and adipokines, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity-related cardiovascular disease, bariatric and metabolic surgery, anti-obesity pharmacotherapy (including GLP-1 receptor agonists), lifestyle and dietary interventions, childhood and adolescent obesity, obesity epidemiology, the gut microbiome, and prevention.
Who should publish in or read the Journal of Obesity Research?
The journal serves basic scientists studying adipose biology and energy metabolism, endocrinologists and bariatric surgeons, dietitians and weight-management clinicians, epidemiologists, and public-health researchers. If your work concerns the causes, consequences, prevention, or treatment of obesity, this is an appropriate home for it and a relevant read.
What article types does the Journal of Obesity Research accept?
We accept original research articles, systematic and narrative reviews, clinical trials, case reports, short communications, and editorials addressing the mechanistic, clinical, translational, and population dimensions of obesity research.
Is the Journal of Obesity Research open access, and who holds copyright?
Yes. Every accepted article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence. Authors retain copyright and full reuse rights, while readers worldwide can access the work without a paywall.
How does peer review work at the Journal of Obesity Research?
All submissions undergo double-blind peer review, in which author and reviewer identities are mutually concealed. Editorial decisions are based on scientific validity, methodological rigour, and relevance to obesity research, in line with COPE ethical principles.
Does the Journal of Obesity Research charge an article-processing fee, and are waivers available?
An article-processing charge applies only on acceptance, after successful peer review. Discounts and waivers are available; authors who need financial support should contact the editorial office. There are no submission fees.
Will my article in the Journal of Obesity Research get a DOI and be discoverable?
Yes. Every published article receives a permanent Crossref DOI for stable citation, and is indexed by OpenAlex and Google Scholar and exposed through an OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting, maximising discoverability and citation potential.
How do I submit a manuscript to the Journal of Obesity Research?
Review the author guidelines for formatting and reporting requirements, then submit through the journal's submit page. Manuscripts should report original obesity-related research, follow recognised reporting standards (such as CONSORT or PRISMA where applicable), and include ethics statements where relevant.
