Aims & Scope
The American Journal of Hematology is a peer-reviewed, open access journal published by Directive Publications and dedicated to the study of blood and blood-forming tissues across the full breadth of hematology. The journal advances scholarship in both malignant and non-malignant disease, serving hematologists, oncologists, transfusion-medicine specialists, laboratory scientists, and translational researchers worldwide.
The journal welcomes original research, systematic reviews, clinical studies, case reports, and editorials spanning hematologic malignancies (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloproliferative neoplasms such as myelofibrosis and essential thrombocythemia), thrombosis and hemostasis (including direct oral anticoagulants and their reversal), anemia and red cell disorders, hemoglobinopathies, immunohematology and transfusion medicine, and hematology pharmacogenomics (for example TPMT and thiopurine drug safety).
We value rigorous methodology, reproducible data, and clinically meaningful insight, from bench-side molecular work to bedside management and population studies. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review.
Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and are assigned a permanent Crossref DOI. Content is discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar and harvestable via OAI-PMH, and the journal follows COPE ethical principles to safeguard the integrity of the scholarly record.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does The American Journal of Hematology cover?
The journal covers the full scope of hematology, including hematologic malignancies (leukemia, lymphoma, myelofibrosis and other myeloproliferative neoplasms), thrombosis and hemostasis and anticoagulation, anemia and red cell disorders, hemoglobinopathies, immunohematology and transfusion medicine, and hematology pharmacogenomics and drug safety. It accepts both clinical and basic-science work.
Is The American Journal of Hematology open access?
Yes. The American Journal of Hematology is a fully open access journal. Every accepted article is published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence so anyone can read and reuse it with attribution, and authors retain copyright to their work.
How do I submit my hematology manuscript to the journal?
Authors can submit original research, reviews, clinical studies, case reports, and editorials through the journal's submission page. Please follow the author guidelines for formatting and reporting standards before submitting. Manuscripts on blood disorders, hematologic malignancies, thrombosis, and transfusion medicine are all in scope.
What types of articles does The American Journal of Hematology publish?
The journal publishes original research articles, systematic reviews and narrative reviews, clinical and translational studies, case reports (such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria or rare presentations), and editorials addressing both malignant and non-malignant hematology.
Does the journal use peer review and assign DOIs?
Yes. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review, and each accepted article receives a permanent Crossref DOI for stable citation. Articles are discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar and can be harvested via the OAI-PMH endpoint.
Is there an article processing charge, and are waivers available?
An article processing charge applies on acceptance to support open access publication, peer-review management, and DOI registration. Waivers and discounts are available, particularly for authors from lower-income settings; contact the editorial office to discuss eligibility before or during submission.
Who should read and publish in The American Journal of Hematology?
The journal is intended for hematologists, medical and clinical oncologists, transfusion-medicine and blood-bank specialists, laboratory and translational scientists, pharmacologists working on hematology drug safety, and clinicians managing anemia, coagulation disorders, and hematologic cancers.
Is The American Journal of Hematology indexed?
Articles are currently discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar, carry Crossref DOIs, and are exposed via OAI-PMH for harvesting. As a new open access title, the journal is also working toward eligibility for additional databases such as DOAJ; we report indexing status truthfully and update it as milestones are reached.
