Aims & Scope

The Journal of Infectious Diseases (JID) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal from Directive Publications advancing the science and clinical practice of infectious diseases. It publishes original research across infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance and stewardship, emerging and re-emerging infections, tropical and neglected diseases, and healthcare-associated infections, serving clinicians, microbiologists, epidemiologists, and public health researchers worldwide.

We welcome work across the spectrum of pathogens, including viral infections such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, dengue, and Lassa fever; bacterial and fungal infections including sporotrichosis, leptospirosis, and scrub typhus; vaccine and immunization research; and clinical syndromes such as catheter-related bloodstream and post-surgical urinary tract infections. Studies on surveillance, diagnostics, antibiotic utilization (including WHO AWaRe classification), and One Health are especially encouraged.

JID accepts original research, systematic and narrative reviews, case reports, and editorials. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review consistent with COPE principles. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and each receives a permanent Crossref DOI. Content is discoverable via OpenAlex and Google Scholar and harvestable through our OAI-PMH endpoint.

Frequently Asked Questions

What topics does the Journal of Infectious Diseases cover?

The Journal of Infectious Diseases (JID) covers the full breadth of infectious diseases: infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance; antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic stewardship; viral infections such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, dengue, and Lassa fever; bacterial, fungal, and tropical infections including sporotrichosis, leptospirosis, and scrub typhus; vaccines and immunization; and healthcare-associated infections such as catheter-related bloodstream and post-surgical urinary tract infections. One Health and diagnostics studies are also welcome.

Who should read and publish in the Journal of Infectious Diseases?

JID is intended for infectious disease physicians, clinical microbiologists, epidemiologists, public health and global health researchers, pharmacists working in antimicrobial stewardship, vaccinologists, and policy makers. Authors conducting original research, reviews, or clinical case studies on any pathogen or infection-related public health question are encouraged to submit, including early-career and globally based researchers.

How do I submit a manuscript to the Journal of Infectious Diseases?

Submit through the Directive Publications submission page linked from the journal homepage. Prepare your manuscript according to our author guidelines, including a structured abstract, declarations on ethics and conflicts of interest, and references in Vancouver style. JID welcomes original research, systematic and narrative reviews, case reports, brief communications, and editorials across all areas of infectious diseases.

What article types does the Journal of Infectious Diseases accept?

JID accepts original research articles, systematic and narrative reviews, clinical case reports and case series (such as sporotrichosis or coinfection studies), brief communications, epidemiological and surveillance reports, and editorials. Case reports describing unusual presentations, emerging pathogens, or diagnostic and treatment challenges in infectious diseases are particularly suitable.

Is the Journal of Infectious Diseases open access and peer reviewed?

Yes. The Journal of Infectious Diseases is fully open access and peer reviewed. All articles undergo double-blind peer review following COPE ethical principles and are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, so anyone can read, download, and share them freely while authors retain copyright.

Does the Journal of Infectious Diseases charge an article processing charge or offer waivers?

JID applies an article processing charge (APC) only on acceptance, which supports open access publication, peer review management, and permanent archiving. Waivers and discounts are available, including for authors from lower-income settings; please contact the editorial office before or during submission to request consideration. There are no charges to read articles.

Will my article in the Journal of Infectious Diseases get a DOI and be discoverable?

Yes. Every accepted article receives a permanent Crossref DOI for stable, citable referencing. Articles are indexed by OpenAlex and Google Scholar and exposed through our OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting, maximising the visibility and citation potential of your infectious diseases research.

Is the Journal of Infectious Diseases indexed in DOAJ, PubMed, or Scopus?

As a new open access journal, JID is currently discoverable via OpenAlex and Google Scholar and provides an OAI-PMH endpoint and Crossref DOIs. We are working toward eligibility for additional services such as DOAJ and PubMed Central as the journal builds its published record; please check the journal indexing page for the current status.
