Aims & Scope
The Journal of Hypertension is a peer-reviewed, open-access hypertension journal from Directive Publications dedicated to the science and clinical management of high blood pressure. It connects cardiologists, nephrologists, internists, vascular medicine specialists, pharmacologists, and public-health researchers across the full spectrum of hypertension.
We publish original research, reviews, clinical trials, case reports, and editorials on essential and secondary hypertension, antihypertensive pharmacotherapy, single-pill combination regimens (e.g., amlodipine-losartan, chlorthalidone), cardiovascular risk stratification, ambulatory and home blood pressure monitoring, resistant hypertension, and hypertension in special populations. Epidemiological and public-health studies on blood pressure control and quality of life are equally welcome.
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles appear open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, authors retain copyright, and each receives a permanent Crossref DOI for discoverability via OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and our OAI-PMH endpoint.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does The Journal of Hypertension cover?
The Journal of Hypertension covers the full spectrum of high blood pressure science and care: essential and secondary hypertension, antihypertensive pharmacotherapy and single-pill combination regimens, cardiovascular risk stratification, ambulatory and home blood pressure monitoring, resistant hypertension, renal and pregnancy-related hypertension, and hypertension epidemiology and public health. We publish original research, reviews, clinical trials, case reports, and editorials.
Who should read and publish in The Journal of Hypertension?
The journal is aimed at cardiologists, nephrologists, internists, vascular medicine and primary-care physicians, clinical pharmacologists, epidemiologists, and public-health researchers. If your work addresses blood pressure measurement, antihypertensive therapy, cardiovascular risk, or hypertension management at the clinical or population level, The Journal of Hypertension is a strong fit for both readership and submission.
How do I submit a manuscript to The Journal of Hypertension?
Submissions are made through our online submission system; see the Author Guidelines and Submit page for formatting, structured-abstract, and reporting requirements. We accept original research, systematic and narrative reviews, clinical trials, case reports, and editorials on hypertension and related cardiovascular topics. All manuscripts are screened for scope and ethics before peer review.
What type of peer review does The Journal of Hypertension use?
Every submission undergoes rigorous double-blind peer review, in which author and reviewer identities are mutually concealed to support impartial evaluation. The journal follows COPE ethical principles for authorship, conflict-of-interest disclosure, and the handling of corrections and concerns, ensuring a fair and transparent process for hypertension research.
Is The Journal of Hypertension open access, and who holds copyright?
Yes. The Journal of Hypertension is fully open access: every article is freely readable worldwide immediately on publication. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence and authors retain copyright, so readers may share and reuse work with proper attribution while authors keep full rights to their research.
Does The Journal of Hypertension charge an article-processing fee, and are waivers available?
An article-processing charge applies only on acceptance, covering open-access publication, DOI registration, and long-term hosting; there are no submission fees. Waivers and discounts are available for authors from lower-income settings or with demonstrated need. Contact the editorial office before or during submission to discuss eligibility for a hypertension manuscript.
Will my article be assigned a DOI and be discoverable?
Yes. Each accepted article in The Journal of Hypertension receives a permanent Crossref DOI for stable citation and is made discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and our OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. The journal is actively expanding its indexing footprint and is preparing applications to additional scholarly databases.
What article types does The Journal of Hypertension accept?
We accept original research articles, systematic and narrative review articles, clinical and observational trials, brief reports, case reports, and editorials or commentaries. Reviews on resistant hypertension, single-pill combination therapy, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and cardiovascular risk are especially encouraged as they offer high reference value to the hypertension community.
