Aims & Scope

The Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases (JOCD) is a peer-reviewed, open-access cardiovascular diseases journal published by Directive Publications for clinicians, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and biomedical researchers worldwide. The journal advances scholarship across the full spectrum of cardiology and cardiovascular medicine, from molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis to evidence that shapes bedside practice.

JOCD welcomes original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, clinical case reports, and editorials spanning heart failure, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia and electrophysiology, interventional and surgical cardiology, preventive cardiology, lipid disorders, and cardiac rehabilitation. We encourage translational work connecting biomechanics, imaging, pharmacotherapy, and exercise therapy to measurable patient outcomes.

Every submission undergoes rigorous double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI.

Content is discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar and exposed via an OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. The journal follows COPE ethical principles and applies an article-processing charge on acceptance, with waivers and discounts available to ensure equitable access for all authors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What topics does the Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases cover?

JOCD covers the full breadth of cardiovascular medicine, including heart failure, coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction, arrhythmia and electrophysiology, interventional and surgical cardiology, atherosclerosis and preventive cardiology, lipid disorders, and cardiac rehabilitation. It also welcomes translational work in cardiovascular biomechanics, imaging, and tissue engineering.

Who should read and publish in the Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases?

JOCD is intended for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, electrophysiologists, internal medicine physicians, cardiovascular researchers, and rehabilitation specialists. Authors investigating heart disease mechanisms, clinical outcomes, devices, or prevention strategies will find a relevant, internationally accessible audience.

What types of articles does the journal accept?

The journal accepts original research articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, clinical case reports, short communications, and editorials addressing cardiovascular diseases. Case reports of rare presentations and review articles synthesising clinical evidence are particularly welcome.

Is the Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases open access, and who holds copyright?

Yes. Every accepted article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, and authors retain copyright. Readers may freely access, share, and reuse articles with proper attribution, maximising the reach of your cardiovascular research.

How does peer review work and does each article get a DOI?

All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by subject experts in cardiology, following COPE ethical principles. Accepted articles receive a permanent Crossref DOI and are made discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar, with metadata exposed via an OAI-PMH endpoint.

Is there an article-processing charge, and are waivers available?

An article-processing charge applies only on acceptance, which funds open-access publication, DOI registration, and long-term hosting. Waivers and discounts are available; authors should contact the editorial office to discuss eligibility before or during submission.

How do I submit a manuscript to the Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases?

Prepare your manuscript according to the author guidelines and submit it through the journal's submission page. The editorial team confirms scope fit, then routes the manuscript into double-blind peer review. Case reports, original studies, and reviews across all cardiovascular subfields are encouraged.

Is the journal indexed in databases like Scopus or PubMed?

JOCD articles are currently discoverable through Google Scholar and OpenAlex and carry Crossref DOIs, with metadata harvestable via OAI-PMH. As a newer open-access title, the journal is working toward broader indexing and is preparing applications such as DOAJ; it is not yet indexed in Scopus, PubMed, or Web of Science.
