Aims & Scope
The Journal of Immunology is a peer-reviewed, open access journal from Directive Publications dedicated to the molecular, cellular, clinical and computational study of the immune system. It publishes original research, reviews, case reports and editorials spanning innate and adaptive immunity, autoimmunity and autoantibodies, tumor immunology and immunotherapy, infection and host defense, and the cytokine and chemokine networks that coordinate immune responses.
The journal welcomes work on immune cell biology, neutrophil extracellular traps, antibody and receptor signaling, vaccine immunology, and inflammation, as well as studies in viral infection (including SARS-CoV-2 and post-COVID immunopathology), tuberculosis, and hepatitis. We encourage translational and methodological contributions, including immunology bioinformatics, Mendelian randomization of immune cell traits, and biomarker discovery using clinical and laboratory data.
Intended for immunologists, clinician-scientists, oncologists, infectious-disease researchers and laboratory investigators worldwide, the journal bridges bench and bedside. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review; accepted articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence with authors retaining copyright, assigned a permanent Crossref DOI, and made discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar and an OAI-PMH endpoint. Editorial practice follows COPE principles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does the Journal of Immunology cover?
The Journal of Immunology covers innate and adaptive immunity, autoimmunity and autoantibodies, tumor immunology and immunotherapy, infection and host defense (including SARS-CoV-2, tuberculosis and hepatitis), cytokine and chemokine networks, neutrophil extracellular traps, vaccine immunology, and translational and computational immunology such as immune-cell bioinformatics and Mendelian randomization.
Who should publish in or read the Journal of Immunology?
The journal is intended for immunologists, clinician-scientists, oncologists working on immunotherapy, infectious-disease and vaccine researchers, and laboratory investigators studying immune cells, antibodies and inflammation. It serves both basic researchers and translational teams seeking an open access venue for their findings.
How do I submit a manuscript to the Journal of Immunology?
Authors submit through Directive Publications' online submission system. Prepare your manuscript per the author guidelines, include an abstract and keywords, and select the article type. After a desk check, eligible manuscripts proceed to double-blind peer review, and accepted articles are published open access with a Crossref DOI.
What article types does the Journal of Immunology accept?
The journal accepts original research articles, review articles (narrative and systematic), case reports, brief reports and editorials addressing experimental, clinical, methodological or computational immunology. Reviews on topics such as cytokine biology, checkpoint immunotherapy or NETs in disease are especially welcome for their citation potential.
Is the Journal of Immunology peer reviewed and open access?
Yes. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review, and all accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence so anyone can read and reuse them with attribution. Authors retain copyright and each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI.
Are there article-processing charges, and are waivers available?
As an open access journal, the Journal of Immunology applies an article-processing charge on acceptance to sustain free public access. Discounts and waivers are available; authors who need fee support are encouraged to contact the editorial office before or during submission. There are no charges to read or submit.
Is the Journal of Immunology indexed, and how discoverable are articles?
Articles are assigned permanent Crossref DOIs and are discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar and the journal's OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. The journal follows COPE ethical principles and is working toward further indexing, including preparing for DOAJ eligibility, while ensuring every article is citable from publication.
How is the Journal of Immunology different from similarly named immunology journals?
This Journal of Immunology is a fully open access title from Directive Publications offering CC-BY licensing with author-retained copyright, transparent double-blind review, and immediate free access. It welcomes both fundamental and clinically oriented immunology, with particular strength in autoimmunity, immunotherapy, infection immunity and computational immunology.
