Aims & Scope
The Journal of Clinical Oncology is a peer-reviewed, open access cancer research journal published by Directive Publications for clinicians, oncologists, translational scientists, and trainees worldwide. The journal advances the evidence base of clinical oncology by publishing rigorous original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, instructive case reports, and editorials that bridge laboratory discovery and bedside practice.
The scope spans the breadth of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, including breast, thoracic, colorectal, and rare cancers such as leiomyosarcoma, phyllodes tumors, and carcinoma of unknown primary. Core themes include chemotherapy and immunotherapy outcomes, multidrug resistance and novel drug-delivery strategies, cardio-oncology and anthracycline cardiotoxicity, molecular diagnostics including mismatch-repair and microsatellite-instability testing, and supportive and survivorship care.
We particularly welcome well-documented clinical case reports of diagnostic dilemmas and rare presentations, alongside translational and precision-oncology studies. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review.
Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence with authors retaining copyright, assigned a permanent Crossref DOI, and made discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and an OAI-PMH endpoint. The journal follows COPE ethical principles to safeguard integrity of the scholarly record.

The Journal of Clinical Oncology publishes research across clinical and translational cancer care, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy outcomes, cardio-oncology, solid tumors and sarcomas, hematologic malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma, precision-oncology diagnostics like microsatellite-instability testing, and instructive case reports of rare cancer presentations.
Is The Journal of Clinical Oncology open access?
Yes. Every article in The Journal of Clinical Oncology is open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, so anyone can read, download, and reuse the work with attribution. Authors retain copyright, and each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI for citability.
How do I submit a manuscript to The Journal of Clinical Oncology?
Authors can submit original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, case reports, and editorials in clinical oncology through the journal's submission page. There is no charge to submit; an article-processing charge applies only on acceptance after peer review, and waivers and discounts are available on request.
What article types does The Journal of Clinical Oncology accept?
The journal accepts original research articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, narrative and clinical reviews, well-documented case reports of rare or diagnostically challenging cancers, and editorials addressing methodological, translational, and applied aspects of clinical oncology.
Does The Journal of Clinical Oncology use peer review?
Yes. All submissions undergo double-blind peer review, in which author and reviewer identities are concealed to support impartial evaluation. The journal follows COPE ethical principles for editorial decision-making, conflict-of-interest handling, and corrections.
Who should read and publish in The Journal of Clinical Oncology?
Medical and surgical oncologists, hematologists, radiation oncologists, cardio-oncology specialists, pathologists, translational cancer researchers, and clinical trainees should read and publish in the journal. It is well suited to authors seeking a rapid, open access home for cancer case reports, treatment-outcomes studies, and translational oncology research.
Is The Journal of Clinical Oncology indexed, and is it the same as ASCO's JCO?
The Journal of Clinical Oncology by Directive Publications is an independent open access title and is not affiliated with ASCO's subscription journal. Articles are registered with Crossref DOIs and discoverable via OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and OAI-PMH harvesting; the journal is preparing applications for further scholarly indexes such as DOAJ and is working toward broader database coverage.
Are there article-processing charge waivers for The Journal of Clinical Oncology?
Yes. An article-processing charge is payable only after acceptance, and waivers and discounts are available, including support for authors from lower-resource settings. Contact the editorial office before or at submission to request a waiver or fee reduction.
