Aims & Scope

The European Journal of Cancer is a peer-reviewed, open access oncology journal published by Directive Publications, dedicated to advancing clinical, translational, and surgical cancer research. The journal serves oncologists, hematologists, surgical and radiation oncologists, cancer biologists, and translational scientists with rigorous, internationally accessible scholarship across the cancer continuum, from molecular pathogenesis to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

We welcome original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, case reports, and editorials spanning tumor biology, cancer biomarkers and liquid biopsy (circulating tumor DNA, cell-free DNA, microRNAs), molecular cytogenetics, hematological malignancies (multiple myeloma, DLBCL and other lymphomas), surgical and interventional oncology, pediatric oncology, translational pharmacology including phytochemical and inflammasome research, and emerging artificial intelligence applications in cancer screening and diagnostics.

Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence with authors retaining copyright, and each is assigned a permanent Crossref DOI. Content is discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar and exposed via an OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting.

The journal adheres to COPE ethical principles and supports global research equity through article-processing-charge waivers and discounts, ensuring authors from all regions can disseminate high-impact cancer research to a worldwide readership.

Frequently Asked Questions

What topics does The European Journal of Cancer cover?

The European Journal of Cancer publishes oncology research across the cancer continuum: tumor biology, cancer biomarkers and liquid biopsy (circulating tumor DNA, cell-free DNA, microRNAs), molecular cytogenetics, hematological malignancies such as multiple myeloma and DLBCL, surgical and interventional oncology, pediatric oncology, translational pharmacology including phytochemicals, and AI-driven cancer screening and diagnostics.

Who should publish in or read The European Journal of Cancer?

The journal is intended for oncologists, hematologists, surgical and radiation oncologists, cancer biologists, translational researchers, pathologists, and clinical scientists seeking peer-reviewed, open access cancer research. It is equally relevant for graduate students and clinicians who want freely accessible, DOI-citable oncology literature.

How do I submit a manuscript to The European Journal of Cancer?

Authors submit through the Directive Publications submission system. The journal accepts original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, case reports, and editorials in oncology. Manuscripts should follow the author guidelines for formatting, ethics declarations, and reporting standards before submission.

What article types does The European Journal of Cancer accept?

The European Journal of Cancer accepts original research articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, narrative and translational reviews, clinical and surgical case reports, observational studies, and editorials addressing clinical, translational, and surgical oncology.

Is The European Journal of Cancer open access, and does it use peer review?

Yes. Every article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence with authors retaining copyright. All submissions undergo rigorous double-blind peer review, and accepted articles receive a permanent Crossref DOI for citability and long-term access.

Are there article-processing charges or waivers for The European Journal of Cancer?

As an open access oncology journal, an article-processing charge applies on acceptance to sustain peer review, production, and permanent hosting. Waivers and discounts are available to support authors with limited funding, particularly from low- and middle-income settings; contact the editorial office for current terms.

Is The European Journal of Cancer indexed, and how discoverable is its research?

Articles are assigned permanent Crossref DOIs and are discoverable via OpenAlex and Google Scholar, with metadata exposed through an OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. As a new open access journal, it follows COPE principles and is building toward eligibility for additional scholarly indexes such as DOAJ and PubMed Central.

How does The European Journal of Cancer differ from established cancer journals?

It offers fully open access publishing with CC-BY licensing and author-retained copyright, double-blind peer review, and Crossref DOIs without paywalls. The journal welcomes translational and surgical oncology, liquid-biopsy biomarker studies, and emerging AI-in-oncology work, providing global authors an accessible venue with equity-focused APC waivers.
