Aims & Scope
World Journal of Ecology (WJE) is a peer-reviewed, open access ecology journal published by Directive Publications, advancing the science of ecology across organismal, population, community, ecosystem, and global scales. It serves ecologists, conservation scientists, environmental researchers, and practitioners seeking a trusted international venue for rigorous, original scholarship.
WJE publishes original research, reviews, case reports, and editorials spanning biodiversity and conservation, functional and trait-based ecology, climate-change impacts on terrestrial ecosystems, forest and plant ecology, community dynamics, and ecosystem services. We welcome work on ecological stability and resilience, plant functional traits such as specific leaf area and leaf mass per area, tree growth and population-level dynamics, species diversity, and human-driven change including land use and artificial light at night, using field experiments, long-term monitoring, trait-based approaches, remote sensing, modeling, and meta-analysis.
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and receive a permanent Crossref DOI. Content is discoverable via OpenAlex and Google Scholar and harvestable through our OAI-PMH endpoint, and the journal follows COPE ethical principles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does the World Journal of Ecology cover?
World Journal of Ecology (WJE) covers the full breadth of ecological science, including biodiversity and conservation, functional and trait-based ecology, climate change impacts on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, forest and plant ecology, community and population dynamics, ecosystem services, and applied ecology. Studies range from local field experiments to global-scale analyses.
Who should read and publish in the World Journal of Ecology?
WJE is intended for ecologists, conservation biologists, environmental and climate-change researchers, plant and forest scientists, and practitioners in resource management and policy. Authors working on biodiversity, functional traits, ecosystem stability, or human impacts on ecosystems will find a relevant, internationally accessible home for their work.
How do I submit a manuscript to the World Journal of Ecology?
You can submit through the journal's submission page on the Directive Publications platform. Prepare your manuscript according to the author guidelines, then upload your files for editorial screening. WJE accepts original research articles, reviews, case reports, and editorials within the scope of ecology.
What article types does the World Journal of Ecology accept?
WJE accepts original research articles, review and systematic-review articles, case reports, short communications, and editorials. We particularly welcome reviews and trait-based or climate-change studies that advance mechanistic understanding of ecosystems and inform conservation.
Is the World Journal of Ecology peer-reviewed and open access?
Yes. Every submission to WJE undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI for citability and discoverability.
Is there an article-processing charge, and are waivers available?
As an open access journal, WJE applies an article-processing charge on acceptance to sustain publication and free worldwide access. Waivers and discounts are available; please contact the editorial office for the current charge and to request consideration based on need.
How is the World Journal of Ecology indexed and discoverable?
Articles in WJE are assigned permanent Crossref DOIs and are discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar, with full metadata available via the journal's OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. The journal is preparing applications for additional scholarly indexing services as it grows.
Does the World Journal of Ecology follow recognized publishing ethics?
Yes. WJE follows the ethical principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), uses double-blind peer review, and maintains transparent policies on authorship, conflicts of interest, corrections, and retractions to safeguard the integrity of the ecological scholarly record.
