Aims & Scope
The American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) is a peer-reviewed, open-access public health journal published by Directive Publications. The journal advances scholarship across epidemiology, infectious disease and immunization, health policy and systems, environmental and occupational health, and maternal, child and behavioral health, serving researchers, clinicians, epidemiologists, and policymakers worldwide.
AJPH publishes original research, systematic and narrative reviews, case reports, short communications, and editorials. We particularly welcome work on disease surveillance, vaccine confidence and immunization, antimicrobial resistance, non-communicable disease prevention, social determinants of health, and the population-level lessons of COVID-19 and other public health emergencies.
Emphasis is placed on methodological rigor and translational relevance, from quantitative epidemiology and risk-prediction modeling to qualitative and health-systems research that informs policy and practice across high-, middle-, and low-resource settings.
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) license with authors retaining copyright, are assigned a permanent Crossref DOI, and are made discoverable through OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and an OAI-PMH endpoint. The journal follows COPE ethical principles, with article-processing charges applied on acceptance and waivers available.
