Aims & Scope
World Journal of Epidemiology is a peer-reviewed, open-access epidemiology journal from Directive Publications, dedicated to the distribution, determinants, and control of disease in human populations worldwide. It offers epidemiologists, public health scientists, clinicians, and policymakers a platform for evidence that informs prevention, surveillance, and health policy.
The journal welcomes original research, reviews and meta-analyses, methods papers, case reports, and editorials across infectious disease epidemiology (outbreak investigation, malaria, cholera, tetanus, epidemic response); chronic and noncommunicable disease epidemiology (hypertension, obesity, gout); molecular and genetic epidemiology (sickle cell disease, red cell disorders); and global health epidemiology. STROBE-aligned reporting is emphasized, and submissions from low- and middle-income settings are encouraged.
Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review. Accepted articles publish open access under a CC-BY 4.0 licence with authors retaining copyright, receive a permanent Crossref DOI, and are discoverable via OpenAlex, Google Scholar, and an OAI-PMH endpoint. The journal follows COPE ethical principles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What topics does the World Journal of Epidemiology cover?
The World Journal of Epidemiology publishes research across the full field of epidemiology, including infectious disease epidemiology (outbreak investigation, malaria, cholera, tetanus, epidemic response), chronic and noncommunicable disease epidemiology (hypertension, obesity, diet, metabolic disease), molecular and genetic epidemiology, environmental and social epidemiology, global health, and disease-surveillance and health-systems research.
Who should read and publish in the World Journal of Epidemiology?
The journal is intended for epidemiologists, public health scientists and practitioners, clinical researchers, biostatisticians, global health professionals, and policymakers. Authors conducting cohort, case-control, cross-sectional, surveillance, or modelling studies on disease distribution and determinants are encouraged to submit, including researchers from low- and middle-income countries.
How do I submit a manuscript to the World Journal of Epidemiology?
Submit your manuscript through the journal's online submission page after reviewing the author guidelines. We accept original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, methodological papers, case reports, and editorials. Authors are encouraged to follow STROBE reporting guidelines for observational studies.
What article types does the World Journal of Epidemiology accept?
The journal accepts original research articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, epidemiological methods papers, short communications, case reports (such as the documented tetanus and outbreak cases the journal has published), and editorials addressing methodological, translational, and applied epidemiology.
Is the World Journal of Epidemiology open access and peer reviewed?
Yes. Every article is open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence, with authors retaining copyright, and undergoes rigorous double-blind peer review. Articles are freely readable worldwide and receive a permanent Crossref DOI.
Are there article-processing charges or waivers for the World Journal of Epidemiology?
As an open-access journal, an article-processing charge applies on acceptance to support peer review, production, and permanent archiving. Waivers and discounts are available, with particular consideration for authors from low- and middle-income countries; contact the editorial office for current details before submission.
Where is the World Journal of Epidemiology indexed and discoverable?
Every article receives a permanent Crossref DOI and is discoverable through OpenAlex and Google Scholar, with full metadata exposed via an OAI-PMH endpoint for harvesting. The journal follows COPE ethical principles and is working toward inclusion in additional indexing services, including a DOAJ application.
How does the World Journal of Epidemiology handle global health and low-resource-setting research?
The journal actively encourages epidemiological research from low- and middle-income settings and on health equity, including disease surveillance, outbreak response, and global health systems. Recent work has examined the cholera response in Lubumbashi, sickle cell disease in tribal populations, and respiratory-infection prescribing in primary care.
